Barry O’Neill became the first rider to break the Derek O'Connor and Jamie Codd stranglehold on the top of the sport when crowned Champion Rider in 2017, a title he has defended in each of the following five years. The former two-time Champion Novice, created history in 2021 when he became the first rider ever to win all four regional titles in the same season. A formidable partnership with Champion Handler Colin Bowe has ensured that Barry has enjoyed notable success in the four-year-old maiden division, partnering many future stars, such as Envoi Allen and Samcro at the beginning of their careers. Bowe has also been responsible for supplying many of Barry’s big racecourse winners, having also enjoyed Graded success on the track. Whilst a 700th career victory came at Ballindenisk in May 2022.
