James Walsh, a local of the point-to-point course at Tinahely in Co. Wicklow, is the son of handler John Walsh, and it was at his local course that he first got off the mark, when he partnered the Patrick Sinnott-trained Shokalocka Baby to win there in January 2009. A partnership with Donnchadh Doyle has proved lucrative, as 13 winners during the 2018/19 season saw him enjoy his most successful campaign to date, with those successes coming aboard expensive four-year-old sellers such as Bravemansgame at Lingstown. Victory aboard his father's High Stakes at Necarne in September 2020, provided Walsh with his 50th winner between the flags, with that horse ending the season as the Champion Point-to-Pointer.
