One of the rising stars of the weigh tent by becoming the first rider since Barry O'Neill to win back-to-back Novices Titles in 2017 and 2018, Shane Fitzgerald joins an illustrious list of riders to do so including, Davy Russell, Derek O'Connor, and Timmy Murphy. That success has largely followed a very successful relationship with Mick Goff, who provided Fitzgerald with his first winner in the saddle when Clondaw Cian won at Bennetsbridge in March 2015. That same horse would later be Fitzgerald's first ride at the Cheltenham Festival in 2018. Horses such as Fabulous Saga, Bun Doran, Good Man Jim and Espoir De Teillee, were guided to their maiden victories by Fitzgerald. In May 2021, Fitzgerald turned professional.
