Patrica Newman's family has a successful relationship with the Irish National, as bother her uncle Eddie and cousin Gerry have both ridden the winner of the race in 1949 and 1982 respectively. Newman competed in the 2017-series of the Corinthian Jockey's Challenge, raising money for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund, after which she made her point-to-point debut which came aboard the Dot Love-trained Thinkinginmysleep at Castletown-Geoghegan October 2017.
