Brian Dunleavy rode his first winner at the age of 13 when guiding Crystal Lady to win a 14.2hh race at the Pony Racing on the beach in Courtmacsherry, Cork in July 2015. Once turning 17, the Cork native immediately took out his license to ride in point-to-points, first appearing at Turtulla in March 2019 aboard Padraig Higgins' Kind Witness. Highlighting himself out a possible name to follow, Dunleavy went on to have 21 rides in that first season, finishing in the placings on seven occasions, before his first winner followed Here Comes Johny for Alan Ahern at Ballyvodock in January 2020.
