Gerry Spain, who is a Pharmacist by trade, has been a regular owner-rider between the flags, and has often been aboard a number of well-known horses in Open Lightweights. A first success came aboard the Pat Doyle-trained French Accordion at Glenbane in October 2010, whilst he has also ridden the likes of Noble Prince, Sir Des Champs, Psycho, Kill Devil Hill and enjoyed no fewer than seven successes during the 2018/19 campaign aboard Sam Curling's Some Are Lucky. It was the aforementioned Nobile Prince that also provided Spain with his first victory under rules in the 2015 Jack Tyner Memorial Hunter Chase at Cork.
